Guidelines - Striped Bass on Hudson River

...... 3 Poles in the water for each person - new regulation as of August 2011, must be north of
the Tappan Zee Bridge.

...... No gaff hooks allowed onboard

.... Once you have a striper onboard will not be allowed to boat another striper, catch n' release only.

.... Fishing Licenses are now required for the Hudson river as well as the Kingston, Saugerties & Catskill Creeks.

.... Herring Rigs are only allowed 5 hooks, not 6

Changes are coming concerning jigging & netting LIVE Herring, plus the number of live herring you may have onboard.
I'm going to wait until DEC makes up the mind what they will be, but you can go onto their site to acquire great information.


Downriggers ( During spawning, balls tend to damage stripers. Be aware of this.)
Bait - Bloodworms, Sandworms, Herring
*Clams - We do not sell clams or approve of this method.
Clams tends to increase the mortality rate.

...... Eels - DEC guidelines - 8" - 14" - must be Hudson River Eels, you can not bring eels purchased from bait shops below the
George Washington Bridge. Eels are not certified to be used above the George Washingston Bridge.
