All of us that fish are concerned about a multitude
of issues that have a direct impact on our sport.
At present, one of the most significant ones is the impact that
commercial fishing for the striped bass
will have on sport fishing. Many states have already banned the
commercial harvesting of this species;
unfortunately, New York is one that has not. On April 11th Congressman
Pallone from New Jersey
introduced HR 1286 which will ban commercial fishing for striped
bass. We urge you to contact your
representative to support this bill. Detailed information may
be found on the web site www.stripersforever.org/home/
. This organization would we welcome you as a member, it is
free
and all they ask is your support and active participation in the
continued effort to attain game fish status.
If you do not take the time to voice your concerns,
you will lose this recreational
fishery to the commercial fishery and politics. Speak out, write
your politicians.
Your voice and written opinion do count.
